Help: Contests
Campus Stocks fantasy stock market contests are the centerpiece of the site. We highly encourage suggestions and comments posted in the forums or sent to us.
Creating a contest:
To create contests, you must have enough points to be classified as a Managing Director. Administrators will also create public contests.
Joining a contest:
You must join a contest before it begins. Some contest managers will allow people to enter a contest late, but the amount they have to invest will be materially effected for every day late.
Contest trading
Once you've joined a contest you will have the ability to buy and short equities. You can place market and limit orders. Limit orders only stay in the system until end of trading and need to be reset at that point. Market orders can be placed at any time, but if done after hours, they will be queued until the first tick comes in for the next market day. Short orders do have margin limits and requirements.
At this point dividends are not paid out.
On Shorting: When you are short any position, you must have enough CASH BALANCE in your account at the end of the day to keep that short position open. If your deficit on the short position falls below your cash balance, your position will be covered and your account will be negative.
For example:
Day 1: Open SHORT 1 position for XYZ company at $10, leaves me with balance of $5.
Day 2: XYZ soars to $18 on a buyout rumor. I will now cost you $18 to cover the share, but you only have $10 from selling the original short and $5 in cash. At the close your position will be covered leaving you with a $3 deficit.
Contest errors
If you notice a problem with the contest, please detail it as much as possible in the Bugs forum or by emailing us. If it is a problem with a certain stock, for example, a stock split that did not register in your portfolio, please post it in the Contest- Symbol Bugs forum.
